ART COLLECTION: YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE

'Be the Sunshine' ©2023 Pamela Wingard

I may be a beach girl now but I grew up in farm country. Rolling hills, green grass, pretty lakes, and good people.

My great aunt and uncle had a working farm that my brother and I would visit every summer. I liked to explore the attic in the farmhouse. Which was kind of spooky but full of old board games. I’d gather eggs in the chicken coop, pick a few vegetables, and snap green beans, which I never liked doing. We ate homegrown vegetables and drank lots of really sweet tea.

Which I did like doing.

Especially the tomatoes, which I’d eat like an apple sometimes.

If we were lucky my brother and I got to ride a horse. Or a combine.

I also liked the screened porch, where I’d read my book for hours. When I wasn’t snapping green beans with great Aunt Dorothy. It was only a couple of weeks each summer, but it has stayed with me for years.

This art collection is a nod to my midwestern roots.

And those childhood days of nothing to do but enjoy the sunshine.
