Authentic Mexican Street Food in Charleston: El Molino La Taqueria
If you love some authentic tacos, you have to try El Molino La Taqueria's Mexican street food in Charleston. I consider myself a bit of a taco expert, and this is the best Mexican street food in Charleston.
The El Molino La Taqueria's decor is simple, with concrete floors, open ceilings, and red folding chairs and tables. They also have a nice, long bar along one wall.
The staff is friendly and super-welcoming. Even on a weekday night, they were busy, yet still attentive.
Start with a house margarita and one of El Molino's bottled sodas. Order of fresh hot tortilla chips. We chose the trio of salsa, queso, and guacamole. We also asked for a side of salsa verde, which they happily brought.
It’s easy to overorder because the portions are nicely sized, and I always want to try everything. We stuck with the classics, since it was our first visit, but El Molino La Taqueria offers some creative options, such as birria ramen and pizzabirria, which sound interesting.
Since the tortillas are homemade, I had to order a quesadilla, which did not disappoint. It was loaded with white Monterrey Jack cheese, hot, and melty. We also ordered the birria tacos, which arrived with the classic consommé for dipping.
I like that the Mexican street food entrees are served with a lime and a few cucumbers and radishes, which pair well with the tacos and quesadilla.
El Molino has a variety of creative tacos on the menu as well as traditional offerings. If you are a bean lover, order the side of charro beans. They are flavorful and a little spicy.
El Molino La Taqueria has tortas, burritos, tamales, and a nice selection of both traditional and inventive Mexican street food dishes.
I always eat too many chips, but I’d recommend saving room for dessert. In addition to its Mexican street food, El Molino La Taqueria is known for its homemade desserts. We ordered the churros, which were good, but next time I’d try one of their homemade popsicles or ice cream. The flavor selection is extensive, and they are also so pretty.
This little restaurant may not be fancy, but El Molino La Taqueria has the best Mexican street food in Charleston.
Actually, the best I’ve had anywhere. And I eat a lot of tacos.
