Wicked Bao offers the only Asian street food in Amelia Island
I love Wicked Bao's Asian Street Food. It's a cute little restaurant in one of Fernandina Beach's classic Victorian-era homes. It's got three palm trees out front, which are lit at night, making it feel special.
My mom and I used to eat Asian food about once a week when we met for lunch, so I’m pretty sure I’m practically an expert.
Owner Natalie Wu can often be found chatting it up with her customers. She grew up in Taiwan and also lived in Singapore, so she knows her stuff! And she's lovely.
When you walk into the Wicked Bao in downtown Fernandina Beach, there is a menu across the whole wall to the left. Order at the counter, find a seat, and they will bring the food out tapas-style as it's ready.
If you are dining with friends or family, you should sit outside on Wicked Bao's pretty patio, which is full of twinkly lights and has a festive feel.If you’re by yourself or with a small party, sit at the bar and order food directly from the bartender. You can also order a full meal at the bar.
Wicked Bao offers classic Asian full-size meals, but I like ordering a variety of small plates to share so I can have a little of everything. It’s difficult to choose a favorite, because everything is delicious here. However, my favorite is Roti Canai, a Malaysian flatbread served with curry sauce for dipping.
I also love Wicked Bao's Sichuan dumplings because they are spicy, delicate, and served in a light broth-type sauce.. The potstickers are milder and good too. If you like grilled octopus, Wicked Bao’s is in an Asian marinade.
My family likes Wicked Baos' baos Bulgogi beef baos and the buttermilk fried chicken baos. I like the grouper and the shrimp, but if you can’t decide, order the bao trio, which includes a braised pork belly, bulgogi beef, and buttermilk fried chicken bao.
The beef noodle soup has a rich broth and is full of bok choy and greens. I’ve never tried Wicked Bao's ramen, but based upon the flavor of the broth in the beef noodle soup, I’m sure it’s delicious as well.
A split of bubbly pairs well with Asian food, too.
