Xiao Bao Biscuit is nestled within a former gas station, lending it great character. The exterior still resembles a gas station (in a good way), but it’s charming both inside and out. The interior feels cozy and warm, with lantern lights and exposed brick walls. We enjoyed sitting outside at the green-painted picnic table on the covered patio.

Xiao Bao Biscuit: Asian Food in a Former Gas Station
After reading about Xiao Bao Biscuit in Bon Appétit, I had to try it, because I love any Asian food. They don’t take reservations, but that wasn’t a problem for us on a weeknight. The menu features a mix of Vietnamese, Japanese, Thai, and Chinese cuisine, with an Asian-fusion style of flavors.

Start with a cocktail, of course. Try the Sichuan Sting or the Mapo Mule. Any of Xiao Bao Biscuit's creative cocktails are available as mocktails, too - and they all pair well with the Asian food.

Xiao Bao Biscuit’s menu is ideal for sharing. Start with the fried mochi dumplings, which are different from what I expected but delicious. They are served with a flavorful sauce for dipping.
The Papaya salad had kick to it, so be prepared for a spicy dish. I like spice, but I couldn’t finish it without my eyes watering. I should have been clued in by the title - ‘kickass papaya salad.’

Xiao Bao Biscuit's signature dish is the Okonomiyaki, which is a Japanese cabbage pancake. It sounds unusual, and it is, but wow. Have the fried egg and the bacon or ‘pork candy’ on top. The egg has a runny yellow and melds into the flavors of the pancake.

Try the gong bao or any of the stir fry entrees which provide a nice protein-heavy balance. The chicken has a level of spice to it, and the menu changes regularly.
Xiao Bao Biscuit is perfect for a casual weekday meal or a lunch with friends. It would be especially cozy on a cold winter evening. I loved it!
