Rosemary Rose: A Rooftop with a Mediterranean feel
If you’re looking for a relaxed rooftop spot with classic cocktails, Mediterranean-inspired small plates, and beautiful city views, Rosemary Rose fits the bill. Located atop The Nickel Hotel on Upper King Street, this rooftop bar and lounge offers a nice cocktail list, appetizers, and an outdoor setting that is especially nice at sunset.
The inside of Rosemary Rose is warm and cozy with soft green touches, large palms, a marble fireplace filled with candles, a beautiful wooden bar, and floor lamps that provide soft lighting. The soft half-booths with round cocktail tables are cozy and comfortable. I especially love the taper candles on the tables. You don’t see that in a restaurant much and they are beautiful.
The rooftop patio at Rosemary Rose feels like a French or Italian setting, with a stone fountain, scalloped French-style umbrellas, potted olive plants, and oversized seating arranged in conversational groups. It’s my favorite spot because it’s just so pretty.
Rosemary Rose's menu includes craft cocktails and wine, with a mix of classics and creative seasonal drinks, such as the ‘Let it Loose’ or the ‘Cheeky and Chic.’ I also like a nice glass of Cremant because you know I love some bubbles.
The small plates are Mediterranean-inspired and great for sharing, with options like fried baby artichokes and roasted shrimp with saffron and tomato. Rosemary Rose also serves larger meals, such as the crispy local fish or the French-style and very fancy ham and cheese with rosemary ham, gruyere, roasted tomato, and Mornay sauce.
Rosemary Rose doesn’t take reservations; it offers walk-in-only service. You must be 21 to visit after 6. I was surprised they didn't offer Wi-Fi to non-hotel guests, but I guess it’s not Starbucks, although I do like to work in a pretty setting.
The drinks at Rosemary Rose are a little pricey, but standard for a nice cocktail in Charleston. However, they are creative and delicious, and worth it for the views and gorgeous setting.
